Ok, I haven't done any in depth research on this at all but I wanna know what the go is! When I was little I recall my friend at the time getting the day off school because her class was going to be talking about this thing called "Halloween". I was only in year one or two at this time. (read: a long time ago). Then skip forward to yesterday. My son was banned from watching tv (children's daytime tv) as they were having a whole day of Halloween shows! I put this statement onto facebook and what met with questioning and also encouragement. I even got a really cool text from my pastors wife! I then watched as friends posted different comments on their facebook page. I was stunned to be honest!
Its like a celebrity who suddenly decides to try and tell you that they have been there by your side your whole life as your best friend... OK odd maybe but Halloween has been something American and is suddenly part of Australian life!?! My limited knowledge of Halloween consists of knowing that there are witches, skulls, scary things, but most of all death involved. So, as a Christian, I honestly cannot see how I can be a participant in any of this celebration. How can I celebrate death when all I stand for is life and a God who brings life and has conquered death. I woke up this morning and thought about my friends who had in some way encouraged or participated in Halloween either directly or indirectly and I felt really sad. Sad that something so obvious has been clouded so much that it looks almost normal and fun. Really, I am broken hearted by it. When I met up with my bestie this morning I had to ask her if she participated or encouraged it at all. Was relieved when she said no. Although now we have children who in are now asking questions and wanting to be involved in it. I know that I may in the future be a very unpopular mum for not allowing it to be a part of our household and family life but I really don't care. I want to bring my children up to recognise the obvious, to recognise that what others see as "grey" areas as actual black "no go" zones. I hope I never get cloudy vision and will always stick to my guns on this kind of thing.
Ok I have had my vent now that is all! What are your thoughts on Halloween?

I agree that it is not something I want to celebrate in my home, weintend to explain to our kids why we don't believe in celebrating it, but I must say, I think relationships with people and an understanding heart is really important too, they know not what they do. Maybe one day God will give me the opportunity to explain the life we have in him, with a neighbour knocking, but not if the door is shut. I know where I stand with God, I want to live and love in the world, but not of it. I do understand where you are coming from, you are a good mum, protecting your kids. I guess I just want to share my perspective, it may not be a 'sad' thing, for god knows your friends hearts. Xo
